Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy is a spinal disc rehabilitation program that uses FDA cleared medical technology that gently stretches the spine and decompresses the discs. This technique of spinal decompression therapy (unloading due to distraction and positioning) has shown the ability to gently separate the vertebrae from each other, creating a vacuum inside the discs that we are targeting. This "vacuum effect" is also known as negative intradiscal pressure. The negative pressure can induce the retraction of the herniated or bulging disc into the inside of the disc, and off the nerve root, the cal sac, or both. It happens only microscopically each time, but cumulatively, over four to six weeks, the results are quite dramatic. The cycles of decompression and partial relaxation over a series of visits, promotes the diffusion of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids from the outside of the discs to the inside. These nutrients enable the torn and degenerated disc fibers to begin to heal. Patients are treated fully clothed and are fitted with a pelvic harness that fits around their pelvis as well as a thoracic harness as they lie face down or face up on a computerized controlled table. The doctor operates the table from a computerized console. Each treatment takes about 20 minutes. Most patients find the sessions to be comfortable, and relief of pain can sometimes be noticed in the first few sessions. Of course, this varies depending on the individual condition.

Todd Chiropractic is one of only 2 Chiropractic Offices in Carroll and Grayson Counties that have their own X-ray equipment.  Why is that so important?  Well, it ensures that if you are in severe pain, and need immediate treatment, you won't be made to suffer while waiting to schedule at the hospital to get x-rayed and then wait even longer to get another appointment at your doctor's office AFTER he/she gets the results.  Also, having our own equipment allows us to do these services MUCH cheaper for our patients than our local hospital.  We can often do a single x-ray of a spinal area as low as $40 per view (which includes reading and reporting the results to you face to face).  Most places (including our local hospital) will send your x-rays out to be read by other non-hospital staff doctors that will send you a separate bill later and then you will usually have to pay to go to your initial doctor for them to read what that report says.  Todd Chiropractic and Dr. Todd will help you avoid all of those unnecessary steps and expenses with our in-house equipment and staff. 

Chiropractic Adjustments (sometimes called "manipulation") can describe many different methods used to correct bones that are slightly out of place ( often called "Subluxations").  Dr. Todd has been trained to use a variety of Adjustment techniques including:  Diversified Adjusting (hands-on traditional adjustments), Motion Palpation, Drop Table (Thompson Technique), Activator Tool, Chiropractic Biophysics, Gonstead Technique, Sacro-Occipital Technique (including Pelvic Blocking), Webster Technique (which boasts an 82% success rate at turning a breech baby without pressing on the mother's abdomen at all), Impulse Adjuster, T.M.J. manipulation, Chiropractic Biophysics,  and some Applied Kinesiology testing. Cold Laser and also LLT (Low Level Light Therapy) has been approved by the F.D.A. in the United States in 2001 and 2002.  Cold Laser Therapy improves blood flow, helps with pain, causes increased Oxygenation and Detoxification of tissue, and increases the rate of cellular metablolism.  Each of these things are perfect for increasing healing in a treatment area which not only reduces recovery time, but can also promote healing with much less scar tissue than if this therapy isn't used. Because of the Specific Frequency and Wavelength used, it does not cause tissue heating like other types of lasers that are used to do things like remove tattoos, perform invasive surgery, or even cut metal industrially.  This allows us to use our Cold Laser machines on any age patient without any pain or discomfort.  Most of our patients receiving these treatments tell us that they actually don't feel anything while receiving the treatments. We have 2 Cold Laser/Low Level Light Therapy machines in use here daily.

Various forms of Electrical Stimulation has been used for pain relief as well as assist the body in healing of Musculoskeletal injuries since around 500BC and it has come a very long way since then.  Of course pt's are usually familiar with home based T.E.N.S. units, but our more advances commercial machines can do 4 other different types of stimulation that are totally different than what a T.E.N.S. machine is capable of.  These machines are capable of helping draw oxygen to the area of healing, decrease pain, relax muscles, and even strengthen muscles in recovery.  The computers that run these units have programs that actually changes the parameters of the stimulation during the ENTIRE time that the machine is running on our patients.  They have pre-programmed standard patterns and can also be individually programmed if the need arises.  They are truly "State of the Art"!

Dr. Todd has had training in Nutrition in college as well as in post-graduate education, and he uses this to help recognize any nutritional deficiencies in his patients and offer customized suggestions whenever a need arises.  Although we do have some specialized supplements for sale, we don't engage in the multi-level marketing programs that some other chiropractors use to try to get their patients selling their products in an effort to make extra money from those sales.  Our philosophy is that if a nutritional need arises, it is first best resolved with a change in your diet and better nutrition, but if that isn't working or isn't possible, then natural and organic/food source supplements are the best choice.  It is better to try to correct problems naturally before resorting to man-made synthetic chemicals like medications which should be used only as a last resort prior to surgery.

Dr. Todd has had training in treating extremity issues in the body such as Plantar Fascitis and Heel Spurs.  These issues are often closely related to biomechanical problems in the joints in the foot, including issues with the various arches in the foot (yes, there are more than one). If the need arises, Dr. Todd has a digital scanner that is used to scan the foot and do a computerized analysis of the foot that colorized the scan showing where there is excess pressure and suggesting if a certain style of insole or Orthotic is necessary in your healing process.  If necessary, Todd Chiropractic can order customized Insoles, Orthotics, and Shoes based on your personalized scans.
